Overhaul your image: The top places to shop with style
Time Out Bahrain staff
Blush Boutique: We particularly like the Facebook slogan for this one ‘whoever said money can’t buy happiness didn’t shop at Blush Boutique’. With its ‘naughty pink’ walls and Parisian-inspired interioirs, Blush is a real little find with hard to source international labels and a handpicked vintage Chanel collection. Open Sat-Thu 10.30am-10pm, Al A’ali Shopping Complex (17 582 577).
Green Diamond: Seriously cool clothing and accessories including the Fyunka bags and bits from Jeddah-based designer Alaa Balkhy. There are also notebooks and cool school must-haves from a range of local designers. Look out also for sister shop Pink Diamond in the same place and now both also open in Seef Mall. Open daily 10am-1.30pm and 4.30pm-9pm, Shop 19a, Road 1401, West Riffa (17 669 555).
Handmade: Hand painted designer bags, engraved vases, light flowers, silk clutches and lots more in the heart of Hoora. Open Sat-Thu 10am-2pm and 4pm-9pm, Friday’s afternoon only, Road 1807, Hoora (35 317 590).
Hazelnut: Beautiful fashion in a store that’s pretty as a picture with pieces from the brand’s own stable of designers. Open daily, mall hours A’Ali Shopping Complex (17 585 388) and Seef Mall (17 587 797).
Khaleda Rajab Couture: One of the brightest sparks in the couture world of the Arabian Gulf, Khaleda marries contemporary slants to classic themes. Open daily 11am-11pm, Falcon Tower in the Diplomatic Area (17 275 527).
La Boutique 92: Fashion, jewellery and accessories. Owned by Azza Al Hujairi who is a certified diamond and gem expert and has her own jewellery and fashion lines which are very successful. And of course, it’s in the gorgeous La Fontaine so you can stop for a treatment or lunch at the same time. Open Tue-Sun 10am-9pm, La Fontaine Centre of Contemporary Arts, Hoora Avenue (17 230 123).
Marsims: Lots of people thought Marsims closed when the Souq suffered so badly in the early days of the disturbances but that was the one actually in the Souq. There’s still a branch close by where you will find women’s, men’s and kids’ clothes at heavily discounted prices. It’s not unusual to pick up Next seconds and the like for just a few dinars, there’s also a good selection of emergency ball-type gowns, though these won’t be to everyone’s taste. Open daily 9am-1.30pm and 4pm-9pm, opposite the Yateem Centre car park entrance close to the souq (17 255 132).
Meemo Space: Unique and artsy clothing, accessories, giftware and art. Gives local designers and artists the chance to display their work and you’ll find bits and pieces here not available anywhere else on the island. Open daily, mall hours, Al A’ali Shopping Complex (17 580 488).
Mimosa: Great European fashion and accessories and hard-to-find labels particularly from the USA. Particularly good for funky jewellery, belts and other accessories. Open daily, mall hours, Al A’ali Shopping Complex (17 587 883).
Pull & Bear: It might come as a surprise to find this one in here but we’re rather partial to this European streetwise brand which takes social trends seriously while offering good looking, on trend fashions and has yet to go viral with some sort of political ist faux pas. Open daily, mall hours. Bahrain City Centre (17 172 305).
The Deal: Heavily discounted genuine designer wear from shoes to clothing and bags to perfumes and make-up. A bit of a random selection but bargains definitely to be had if you’ve got time to rummage through the rails. Open daily, mall hours, Bahrain Mall, Central Business District (17 555 795).
Yazi Boutique: Cool and kitschy handbags and jewellery with interesting bits and pieces. Handmade decorations, bags studded with Swarovski crystal and much, much more for the seriously girly girl with a little edge. Open daily mall hours, Seef Mall (17 587 181).
