Bahrain Film Days Wed 26 to Sun 30
The Ministry of Culture has launched a new film festival, running at Bahrain City Centre cinema until November 30. It features a variety of diverse films and cultures, reflecting visions from people in the country and across the region, while marking Our Year of Arts and as Manama celebrates being named Asian Tourism City 2014. Fifth-five Bahraini, Arab, Asian and international films will be screened over the five day festival from 11am to noon at Bahrain City Centre and outside at the Bahrain Fort seaside courtyard. The team at Al Riwaq Art Space is launching their annual Market 338 concept again with a focus on sustainability and being green. ‘The Nest’, as it is now called, will see a whole host of creative folk produce dedicated installations, and a range of crafty vendors will be selling their wares. Bailando Salsa Festival Thu 27 to Sat 29 It seems salsa fever has a firm grip on Bahrain this year as a second dedicated dance festival full of workshops, parties and sensual Latin moves kicks off. The Bailando Salsa Festival, brought to us by Bahrain-based Bailando Events and the Amsterdam Salsa Festival, is set to be an exciting introduction to salsa, kizomba and bachata under one banner. Korean Film Festival 2014 Thu 27 A new kind of film festival is being held at the Bahrain National Museum Auditorium in collaboration with The Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Korea Foundation. It kicks off at 7pm on November 27, continuing on December 4 and 12, with showing of three films: Masquerade (Nov 27, 7.30pm), The Thieves (Dec 4, 7.30pm) and Miracle in Cell No. 7 (Dec 12, 7.30pm). Masquerade is a historical fiction film and drama running at 131 minutes with a performance by Byung-hun Lee. It’s free admission. Farmfest Fri 28 The Boho Baha blokes are back with yet another Farmfest at a large, open air space near the Rugby Club in Saar. Head over from noon for a slew of new bands and some old favourites (totaling ten bands and six soloists), an art space, the Boho Market (with plenty new indie shops involved), and great culinary concoctions from Vuruz. It’s a family-friendly event until 6pm, then after than parents are advised to tuck the kids away to enjoy some more grown-up content.
