Superheroes Until Wed 17 Al Riwaq Art Space is hosting a solo exhibition called ‘Superheroes’ by Bahraini artist Mohammed Al Mahdi, and now’s your last chance to check it out. In a demonstration of purity, the artist reflects on the fact that inside we’re all ‘common superheroes’. Call 1771 7441.
French story time Wed 17 A short cartoon movie is being shown in Alliance Francaise headquarters, in French with English subtitles. There will be free crêpes to taste after too. It’s on from 5pm to 6pm for free (members) or BD2 (non-members). Call 1768 3295.
Ramadan Kareem Thu 18 (on or around) The Islamic Holy Month of fasting (sawm), one of the five pillars of Islam, is upon us. This means as soon as the sun comes up, fasters cannot eat, drink, smoke or chew gum until iftar – the moment the sun goes down. The first day of Ramadan here is called by the moon-sighting committee in Saudi Arabia the night before, as the first day coincides with the new moon.
Family-friendly cinema Thu 18 Alliance Francaise is screening a full-length French film with English subtitles from 4.30pm. The flick of choice is 2011’s animation ‘Le Tableau’ (‘The Painting’). It’s free to watch for members or BD2 for non-members. Call 1768 3295.
Art meets science Starting Sun 21 Studio Ceramics summer camp is on Sundays to Thursdays, 10.30am to 1.30pm for BD65 per week. Kids can enjoy activites such as ceramic painting and foam mosaic, as well as Mad Science experiments every day. Visit www.studioceramics.me or call 1700 2911.
