Why you should visit La Fontaine Centre of Contemporary Art & Spa
Time Out Bahrain staff
We’re looking for somewhere with a little bit of everything, such as art, shopping, food, culture. Where could you suggest, Time Out?
We have the perfect place. La Fontaine Centre of Contemporary Art & Spa is just what you’re looking for.
Oh yeah? Why’s that? Well, for a start, it ticks all of those boxes. And more. It’s based in a renovated traditional Bahraini house and it’s one of Bahrain’s most stunning locations, right in the heart of Hoora. It’s the kind of place that expands the mind and allows you time to absorb life’s true beauties. It also happens to be one of Bahrain’s most sought-after wedding venues.
Lovely jubbly. What’s there? Firstly, there’s a contemporary art gallery (of course), which is home to works by internationally renowned artists and hosts regular exhibitions. Across the beautiful outdoor courtyard, which boasts a grand water feature, there is also a European restaurant, offering French and Italian dishes plus house beverages, which is a past recipient of the Time Out Bahrain Best Romantic Restaurant award. There’s also a ladies-only spa, where they offer outdoor hydrotherapy options, as well as a studio in which Pilates and yoga lessons take place. Finally, there’s a lovely store, where unique, one-off products by local designers are on sale.
Excellent! It sounds like a seriously happening place. Is there anything special going on there this month? As a matter of fact, there’s a movie night on Tuesday August 16, from 8pm. La Bohème, by Giacomo Puccini, is being screened. It’s a hugely popular and emotional opera in three acts. Tickets cost BD10, but the value of that can be used as credit in the restaurant on the same evening.
Good deal. What about in the gallery? What’s there right now? Well, until the end of the year there’s a fascinating exhibition called Nowhere by Palestinian visual artist Bashar Alhroub. See Art & Culture from page 60 for more on that. Call 17 230 123 for more.
Only at La Fontaine
The fine-dining spot at La Fontaine, with its indoor and outdoor seating, is easily one of Bahrain’s most romantic restaurants. The food and beverage selections, which take inspiration from across Europe, are great, but it’s the soft lighting, crisp white linen and great views across the courtyard that really make this a must-try experience. Open Tue-Sun 11am-10.30pm.
