Great shows around to keep art lovers happy during July
Time Out Bahrain staff
There are a couple of great shows around to keep art lovers happy during July.
25 Years of Arab Creativity Created in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Paris-based Institut du Monde Arabe, this is an exceptional collection presenting the most exhaustive panorama of contemporary Arab art to date and featuring painting, sculpture, photography, video and installations, as well as special commissions and works by some of the most renowned names in the contemporary art scene including Bahraini Artist Waheeda Malullah.
At the crossroads of Asia, Africa and Europe, Arab contemporary art reveals a great plurality of styles. Many of the exhibited artists share more than one culture. Some of them have settled in Europe or the USA while a great many of them have also returned to their homelands. They thus create a unique link between East and West; a link characterised by its openness towards the world and the profound upheavals that are affecting it. 25 Years of Arab Creativity will be held at the Bahrain National Museum from July 7 till mid-September, coinciding with the annual Bahrain Summer Festival.
Framing the Experience Framing the experience was a unique photography contest offering photographers a chance to experience and capture the beauty of nature at its best… in Kerala, India.
It was held earlier this year and winners Reginn Palacio and Stephanie Ravel spent time in Munnar, a hill station on the Western Ghats, in the Idukki district of Kerala. The small village offers great views of layers and layers of tea plantations, low flying clouds and misty mountains.
They also travelled to Kumarakom, home to Kerala’s largest backwater location and a variety of flora and fauna.
Exploring the backwaters in a traditional small boat with the monsoon season setting in provided some great photographic shots.
Now organisers are exhibiting the pictures the two winners took during their trip with a series of shows. Framing the Experience, July 4-6, Lulu Hidd. Also at the Suzuki showroom Khamis, July 8-10.
