Hair & nails: Joz Amwaj Salon & Spa

If you’re looking for some seriously shiny and nourished hair, and are still searching for a manicure and pedicure that actually lasts for over two weeks, then this is the place to go. This salon also boasts the most stunning sea views, which immediately relax you while the therapists set to work. L’Oreal’s Professional Hot Oil Treatment was applied to my hair followed by a deep scalp massage. As the oil started to work its magic, I was treated to a Shellac manicure and pedicure. This is a revolutionary procedure that is said to ensure your nail colour won’t chip for up to two weeks, and it even claims a lifespan of one month on your toes – perfect!

Once the nails are cleaned, filed and completely prepared for your chosen colour, a base coat is applied and then ‘cured’ under a CND UV lamp for two minutes to ‘seal’ the varnish. Two coats of the nail polish are applied, cured and then a final top coat completes the process. Voila. Immaculate nails that were really glossy and remained chip free for two weeks, and the Shellac on my toes actually lasted almost four. The hair treatment was washed out, and for the first time in years a comb actually slid through my normally matted mane and it also had a healthy shine – I will be back.

Anti-ageing: Bliss Spa

This little gem is tucked away in Adliya and is probably one of the best kept secrets on the island when it comes to beauty treatments. It is friendly, relaxing and personable, and the therapists undergo continual training to keep them abreast of new procedures and treatments on the market.

I went along for a LPG Anti-Ageing Facial, which claims to add denseness and plump up your skin to help erase the signs of ageing. After a personalised evaluation of my skin, my therapist Anne recommended that I have a course of six (one a week) to see maximum results. My face was fully cleansed and prepared for the magic to really begin.

The LPG machine has a head that is slowly rolled over your face and delivers micro beads to the skin’s surface, which stimulate youth cells to restart their natural production of collagen and elastin – in short, it can hopefully help to reverse the ageing process. The treatment is painless, relaxing, and is completed with a face mask and facial massage to continue to get the blood circulating to your skin’s surface. I have been back for my second treatment and will be completing the course of six, because already my skin seems to have an added glow about it.

Nourishing facial: Dessange Spa

This ladies-only spa really does live up to its reputation for ambience, facilities and treatments. Centrally located in Adliya, it was suggested that I arrive 30 minutes prior to my appointment time in order to relax and enjoy the complimentary sauna and steam facilities. I did, and it totally wiped away the day’s stresses before my facial even began.

After an in-depth skin analysis, my therapist decided that the Active Facial would be best for my skin, as it was dehydrated and in need of some serious nourishment. A deep cleanse was performed, followed by a soft exfoliation, a replenishing mask and then one of the best face, shoulder and scalp massages I have had, and which seemed to last forever.

A nourishing face cream was gently applied along with an eye cream, which my therapist suggested I get into the habit of using. The Dermalogica range of skincare products was recommended, and a written and comprehensive skin care prescription was waiting for me before I left. I invested in two of the recommended products – the eye cream and the moisturiser, and so far it does seem to give my face an added lift.
