Try the Green Bar Experience Pure Spa at the Kempinski Grand & Ixir Hotel
Time Out Bahrain staff
When my colleague Fatima came back from interviewing Green Bar founder Reem Al Khalifa and told me there was a whole range of organic products sourced and produced here in Bahrain, I decided I had to see for myself.
At the moment Green Bar is only available online and at the Pure Spa, so it was off to the Kempinski at City Centre for an afternoon of pampering in the capable hands of therapist Ja. I started with a quick shower and then it was onto the massage bed to be swaddled in warm towels to open up the pores before Ja went to work with herbal flower face and body scrub. It was kind of scratchy, as scrubs generally are, but not uncomfortable and she was very gentle around the facial area.
Ja explained the herbs and flowers in each treatment as she went along letting me know how each is designed to work.
Next was a luxurious head massage with an oil mask, which felt just dreamy, then back into the shower to wash off the scrub before my skin was massaged with a combination of apricot and grapefruit oils and traditional Middle Eastern rosewater.
And last but not least I was treated to a brightening Face Elixir.
Now, I know organic production has come on a lot in recent years but I really didn’t imagine products that are made in Bahrain and environmentally friendly could feel so luxurious.
Of course it’s partly to do with the surroundings, the Kempinski spa makes you feel pampered before you actually take any treatments.
But the products themselves are also really rich and I loved the use of rose water which both smells great and gives a particularly Middle Eastern touch.
The blurb says it’s ‘a rejuvenating and luxurious treatment for the body, mind and soul...that will not only nourish, hydrate, smooth lines and brighten your skin, but also boost skin activity and activate a sluggish system’.
Well I’m not sure about the boosting and activating but my skin certainly did feel soft afterwards and the experience itself was a treat. One tip though, if you decide to try this yourself, don’t plan on going anywhere straight afterwards, your hair will feel fab but you’ll look like you washed it in the chip pan.
