The promise The La Alternativa is a non-invasive wrinkle-relaxing solution using Natura Bissé’s exclusive Inhibit collection. Due to targeted ingredients, this line dramatically reduces expression lines and wrinkles, leaving the face smooth and rejuvenated. Inhibit is the first anti-wrinkle treatment formulated with Natura Bissé’s own Octamioxyl ingredient, which is the most effective inhibitor of facial contractions, and a lipofiller complex to fill existing deep wrinkles and expression lines – the cosmetic alternative to micro-injections and other medical-aesthetic procedures. Step by step There are three main steps involved that are known as ‘Double 3D Technology Benefits’.
First up, as with virtually all facials, there came the deep cleansing process but, unlike some others I’ve tried, this didn’t feel as if my face was being scrubbed to within an inch of its life and was really rather relaxing.
Next came the glycol peel, a mildly acidic solution was smoothed over my face, neck and upper chest and it immediately started to tingle and feel hot and itchy but, apparently, this is perfectly normal if somewhat unpleasant.
That bit aims to remove dead cells and soften the skin for treatment and next came a gentle massage then therapist Bami set about me with a tuning fork which is nowhere near as alarming as it sounds.
The metal fork was moved gently over my face in conjuction with the application of the Octamioxyl, which is said to inhibit and relax facial contractions like Botox, thereby preventing the formation of new lines, and a dermafill complex which acts at different layers of the skin by providing volume and filling deep wrinkles.
Lastly a mask was spread across my face, including my eyes and lips which felt a bit odd, and while it did its stuff I got a quick hand and foot massage before it was peeled off.
The results Well I certainly felt all glowy and dewy afterwards and I’ve had comments that I look rested, despite a somewhat heavy weekend. However, I’m not entirely sure about the claim that this is like Botox. Spa boss Kathy tells me that when they looked at the demonstration, they could immediately see the difference when one side of the face was treated and the other not, so I’ll take her word for it as I guess glowing and dewy’s probably what we’re all aiming for.
The pros My skin really did feel heaps better after this treatment which Kathy tells me should last for around two weeks. And, on an unrelated but equally lush note, I love the chilled welcome tea they serve, it tastes of lemon and peaches and is totally delicious.
The cons At an hour and a half I found this somewhat hard going, though I did get a back rub afterwards, and it’s certainly not cheap but it would be worth a splurge if you’re going somewhere special. La Alternativa treatment BD75 at the Ritz-Carlton (17 586 808).
