She explains that each and every thing on earth, from a human to a rock, has its own aura or energy field and demonstrates this using Jan, the owner of the shop, as a model. I’m asked to bring my hands towards Jan’s body front and back and stop when it feels comfortable. I automatically stop a few centimetres from Jan’s back and Julie explains this is the outer edge of Jan’s aura. She then asks Jan to consciously expand her aura with a deep breath and meditation and, sure enough, the next time I bring my hands towards her, they stop much further out of their own accord. Yes, it seems very strange but that’s what happened. Sometimes energy can become blocked, which is where aura cleansing comes in. This can be performed in a number of ways either with crystals, sound, incense or using certain leaves and water.
On me Julie uses crystals and sound, outlining each stage of the process before she starts and then asking me to stand loosely with my arms out to my sides. Using a clear crystal and a crystal spray she moves from the floor, up my body, over my head and back down the other side with the crystal hovering a few centimetres out. Anywhere she feels an energy blockage she sprays the crystal essence until she can move the crystal in a clean flow around my body.
I must admit, I am a bit of a sceptic but I did feel heat in my hands and shoulders as she moved the crystal around me and later, when I was given the opportunity to try the cleansing on Julie, I was sure I could feel slight resistance in a few areas of her body, indicating energy blocks.
Once finished with the crystals Janet then moved onto sound therapy tapping a deeply resonant bowl in a pattern around my body, another form of aura cleansing.
The results It’s hard to gauge a specific result from this kind of treatment since, for me, there didn’t seem to be a problem in the first place. But both Julie and Janet said aura cleansing is very popular in this part of the world as it is believed to offer protection from the ‘evil eye’, which Julie, possibly realising that this doesn’t sound particularly rational, explains is in fact just another term for negative vibes or other people’s bad feelings towards you.
For my part I left 8 Mansions feeling very relaxed and was even sorry to be coming back to work rather than heading home for a nap.
The pros It’s free, just take yourself to 8 Mansions and either Julie or Janet will help. Believer or not, it’s actually very relaxing and it certainly can’t do any harm.
The cons It does all seem a bit new age bonkers but, at the same time, I can’t deny that people have been protecting their energy in one way or another since the beginning of time. Aura cleansing is available free of charge at 8 Mansions, Country Mall. Julie Lomas, among many qualifications, is a registered crystal therapist and teacher and she will be offering courses in the coming weeks. Check out www.conscious-connections.com for details.
