Why you would benefit from a meditation session in Bahrain
Time Out Bahrain staff
The director of the Bahrain Meditation Centre tells us why we would all benefit from attending this month’s Self Development Conference.
Why did you originally bring the International Self Development Conference to Bahrain?
It was a call from the people who live in Bahrain. They saw how meditation improved the lives of people and calmed them down. After the success of two retreats ‘Touch the light’ and ‘Coming into the light’, we were encouraged to come up with the first International self development conference in 2011, then in 2012 and now in 2015.
What is the theme this year? Seeing the current state of tension and turmoil around us, we felt ‘The Road to Peace’ conference is timely and relevant. The conference objectives are to create a better awareness of our innate peace and how to manage an everlasting inner peace with the self and others.
What subjects are being covered? A few of the topics that will be covered are: overcoming anger – calming the mind and reclaiming our peace; moving away from fear; conflict management skills; find your purpose – create the life you want; the science of happiness; acceptance – a turning point; the mind-body balance; living with certainty in uncertain times; developing emotional intelligence.
Why do you think these are important in society today? We are living in the most challenging and sensitive of times. Never in the history of humanity has there been such an era of uncertainty and chaos. Together with the acceleration of change in the world, human consciousness is travelling towards turbulence and turmoil, confusion and fear. The human mind is becoming increasingly fragmented and vulnerable.
The state of imbalance within the individual is reflected in the world around us. In addition, the deterioration of human values has resulted in human beings becoming strangers to their inner peace and to the important values of compassion, respect, equality and truth. It is now time to reconnect with these intrinsic values, and to find a better way to live. Only when the human mind finds alignment and arrives at peace within itself can the process of peace begin in the world.
Who should attend the conference? The conference is for people from any age, and from all walks of life, who are looking to live more peacefully, purposefully and meaningfully. It is for those who wish to be more effective in their work and relationships and who are passionate about making a difference in the world.
What do you hope to achieve with this conference? ‘The Road to Peace’ conference is engineered around exploring ideas about peace through experiential learning and creative processes. It brings together experienced and inspiring speakers from around the world, and from a variety of backgrounds, all of who demonstrate the principles of peace in action. The programme consists of a dynamic mix of lectures, discussions, workshops, panels and meditation experimentation interspersed throughout the day with moments of silence for inner reflection.
What do you hope someone will take away with them? Learn tools and techniques to bring peace and balance into every area of your life and relationship. Achieve mental and emotional well-being and inner strength which brings clarity, stability and a greater sense of fulfillment and joy. Be equipped to make better decisions and remain calm amid crisis. Develop the qualities self confidence, self respect, and self empowerment. Enhance EQ (Emotional Quotient) and develop the ability to communicate freely and solve problems non-violently. Develop positive personal power and inner leadership qualities, leading to levels of understanding and enriched communication. Receive a certificate of participation.
Why should everybody have a go at meditation? Meditation is the deepest and most effective way to ‘let go’ of the attachments, fears and sorrows, which distort our energy and heal the wounds of the past. Meditation is the easiest way to see and transcend old patterns of behaviour, gain a true insight into eternal truths and dissolve the blocks that have stopped us from experiencing our inner peace. Meditation helps us to master our senses, maintain our focus of inner attention and therefore remain undisturbed by external events. However, practice and perseverance is required. Then we can truly begin living as human beings and not human doings. The Road to Peace Conference is on February 10-12.
