The Ritz-Carlton Spa has turned to local tradition for relaxation
There are plenty of buzzwords that make their way around the spa industry. “Celebrity-endorsed”, “anti-ageing” and “results-driven” are just three. While these have a place in our ever-changing societies, The Ritz-Carlton Spa has turned its back on this generation’s trends and taken a more “timeless” approach.
In the past couple of months, 20 hotels and resorts have unravelled a new ethos for The Ritz-Carlton Spa, anchored in local traditions and natural solutions. Our island hotel stalwart is no exception, as it has introduced a Middle Eastern theme to its treatments.
The spa now pays homage to the sands of the East Arabian Peninsula, “the land where the sun rises”, and the rugged ranges of North West Africa, “the land where the sun sets”. Ingredients such as argan, rose and Dead Sea salts have been introduced, alongside age-old techniques. For instance, Her Secret Sanctuary features a rose steam bath, and a black olive and lavender soap cleanse. Meanwhile, On the Banks of the Dead Sea harnesses re-mineralising and detoxifying properties of Dead Sea salts to repair and restore the skin.
At the same time, the spa has also introduced the Luxury Spa Escape package, solely for residents of the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, which sees guests transported to and from the spa in a Rolls-Royce Ghost II, to then enjoy a massage, healthy lunch and access to its five-star facilities.
Elsewhere, in Florida, for example, guests can enjoy the benefits of zero gravity, while relaxing with a massage in a hammock. In Dubai, The Desert Reviver is a sand-based exfoliation, followed by a hot stone massage, evoking the landscape and sunny climes.
“[The] experience should be exceptional,” says Michelle Kelthy, a Ritz-Carlton spa director. “We have packaged tradition, location and culture into the experience to map out a spa journey that helps our guests relax.” Time for a hammam, anyone?
