Time Out takes a stroll through Adliya and stops for some hair styling advice a Cinderella's Ladies salon
Time Out Bahrain staff
Whether just bored with mousy tresses, looking for an injection of va-va-voom or because, shock horror, a couple of stray grey hairs have appeared, most of us (of the fairer sex anyway) do, at one time or another consider dying, highlighting or bleaching our hair.
If you arrive at Cinderella’s beauty salon in Adliya requesting the latter, however, you’ll be met with some resistance. ‘Oh no, never ever bleach your hair, you’ll destroy it,’ says owner Fathia Al Bastaki, who runs the salon with her sister, Fakhria, and insists that bleaching strips your hair of its natural pigmentation, leaving it dry, split and dead. Next, she’ll steer you towards the L’Oreal Professional colouring products, specifically the Majirel range, which is ammonia free and helps your hair to maintain a natural balance.
After assisting me in selecting the best colour, the L’Oreal-trained staff applied the colour to my hair, then left it for the recommended duration. I’m not quite sure what that was as time speeds up no end when enjoying a pedicure and foot massage, but I suddenly found myself having my hair rinsed and a L’Oreal conditioning treatment applied, before it was rinsed and blow-dried. And voila I was a natural-looking dark blonde, and very happy with the results.
Tucked away in Adliya, Cinderella’s is like a page from the fairy tale, decked out in hot pinks and mauves, gilt mirrors and Louis 14th chairs, with a range of treatments to ready any princess for the ball: from mani’s to hot oil massages and hair colouring at decidedly un-princely prices. Cinderella’s Ladies Salon, Mansouri Apartments, Sheik Isa Avenue, Adliya, opposite Don Vito Café (17 717 779) Open 8.30am - 8pm daily. Colouring costs from BD15. Booking not required but advised for colouring.
