Strictly one for older kids (little nippers may well have nightmares) John Carter is visually spectacular and full of fast-moving action – so could be the perfect source of afternoon entertainment for bored and energetic ‘eight and ups’. This sci-fi adventure involves a military captain who is inexplicably transported to Mars, where he finds himself embroiled in whole heap of extra-terrestrial political unrest. The movie reviews for John Carter in the cinema were unflattering, but the film did score 52 percent on the hard-to-please Rotten Tomatoes metre, so you might all enjoy it more than you think.
