Why go? Head out to Turtle Lake, located in the hilly outskirts of Tbilisi, which offers stunning views of the mountains and the city below. Otherwise, catch a bus to the village of Katskhi, in the western Georgian region of Imereti, and visit the Katskhi Pillar, aka Pillar of Life – a 40-metre monolith with a monastery perched on the top. Today visitors ascend via a ladder, though it’s uncertain how the monks and their building materials made the climb.
