Demis Roussos The legendary Greek singer and performer, Demis Roussos, made his name with Aphrodite’s Child, which also featured Vangelis and Lucas Sideras. A huge hit in Europe the band released a handful of albums before breaking up in 1971.
Roussos went solo and charted highly with hits such as “Goodbye My Love Goodbye” and “Forever and Ever” before deciding to retire and move to Malibu. However, having moved back to Greece, he boarded a plane for Rome in 1985 which was highjacked and he and his wife, along with the other passengers, were held captive for a few days.
The experience prompted him to return to music in the hope of promoting peace and understanding. He returned to recording and touring and, in his career to date, has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide.
With a voice that embodies the feel of the Mediterranean, his show promises to be a nostalgic journey for some and an education for new fans. August 10, Ehdeniyat International Festival, Ehden, Lebanon. Tickets from BD10 available at www.ticketingboxoffice.com

Cirque Eloize When it comes to contemporary circus, there’s just no beating the nation that created Cirque du Soleil, now it’s Cirque Eloize’s turn to wow Dubai with their show, ‘iD’ (also created in Montreal), which examines the idea of identity and individuality in a society that encourages homogenization. How do individuals deal with public space? And how do we express ourselves? Played at Dubai World Trade Centre and directed by Jeannot Painchaud, ‘iD’ uses a mix of circus acrobatics, loud electro rock and hip-hop to answer those questions. The result is a magnificent, resolutely urban creation that sees jugglers break-dancing, tightrope walkers balancing to the soundtrack of police sirens and bike riders defying the laws of gravity All in all, ‘iD’ promises a wholly novel circus experience for kids and adults alike. August 15-24, Sheikh Rashid Hall, Dubai World Trade Centre, Dubai. Ticket details to be confirmed.

August 16, Ehdeniyat International Festival, Ehden, Lebanon. Tickets from BD7.500 available from www.ticketingboxoffice.com

New World Punx What began as a few spontaneous DJ sets between good friends and collaborators Ferry Corsten and Markus Schulz, has grown into a hybrid stage persona...the New World Punx. Each with his own distinct style of DJing and music production, Corsten and Schulz create an utterly different world when they team up as New World Punx. The sound is harder, more driving and more aggressive than the melodic, euphoric style of soaring trance. Be they side-by-side onstage or in the studio releasing music under the NWP moniker, Schulz and Corsten’s combined persona is much tighter and more dynamic than the longer, more progressive sets they’re known to play solo so this sounds like being a banging night. August 17, Beirut International Exhibition & Leisure Centre, Lebanon. Tickets from BD15 available at www.ticketingboxoffice.com.
Engelbert Humperdinck A real blast from the past this one from the 77-year-old whose recent rebirth saw him representing the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012. Known for songs such as ‘Release Me’ and ‘The Last Waltz’, Engelbert was once a bit of a heartthrob and a housewives’ favourite. These days his renewed popularity seems to be down to the kitsch value of attending an Engelbert show but we’re told the old fella still puts on quite a performance. August 17, Batroun International Festival, Lebanon. Tickets from BD15 available at www.ticketingboxoffice.com
Marianne Faithfull Another golden oldie, but with somewhat more street cred courtesy of those Rolling Stones former amours and the brilliant ‘Broken English’, Faithful brings her unique sound to La Magnanerie for a night which is likely to sell out fast. This year, due to various circumstances, to festival has had to relocate to the outskirts of Beirut but it promises to be no less awesome. August 17, Baalbeck Festival, Lebanon. Tickets from BD17 arailable at www.ticketingboxofffice.com.
