When did the company start up and what was the inspiration behind it?
Luxe Little was launched in October 2010 and the inspiration was to bring the best baby products from around the world to parents in the GCC countries and across the Middle East. Luxe Little was formed to serve parents who are looking for the latest trends in respect to baby carriers, baby toys, baby clothing and baby accessories. We focus on providing safe and innovative products to our customers, as well as organic and fair trade products that benefit local communities. We are proud to have strong partnerships with suppliers who have fair trade principles and whose product lines and community initiatives support women and children in various communities around the world. It’s important to us that, in addition to making life easier for parents and babies within our region, we give back to those who are less fortunate than us.

The products that we carry were typically not previously available in the Middle East and were not available to be shipped here. Luxe Little offers parents easy access to the most famous brands from Sweden, the USA and Australia. We also offer a beautiful range of Turkish rugs that have been specially designed for children and babies.

And how’s business?
We have been pleasantly surprised by how quickly things have progressed since our launch just two months ago! We knew that our products would be popular, particularly the more famous brands such as Babybjörn, Kaiya Eve and Sophie la Giraffe; however, we were also conscious that online shopping is not as popular in our region as elsewhere in the world. We pride ourselves on providing an exceptional service and have received many orders via referrals from happy customers. People looking for a special gift for a baby shower or a newborn have been extremely pleased with our beautiful packaging.

What are some of your most popular items?
Our most popular products have been our range of organic clothing and toys and our Babybjörn baby carriers. Mamas in our region really enjoy dressing their babies in the latest fashions and the emphasis is on quality, style and comfort. Our very special designer swaddles, many of which are made from organic fabric, are very popular for newborn photography sessions as well as for gifts.

Can you tell us a little bit about your range of organic products? What do you offer and in what ways are they organic?
We have organic clothing, toys and swaddles, organic baby carriers and wrap carriers, as well as organic nursing wear for mamas. Our largest range of organic products is produced in Egypt by the company Under the Nile. Since 1998, Under the Nile has been a leader in the organic industry, producing the softest and most durable cotton apparel, toys and accessories for infants and children. All of its products are made from 100 per cent organic Egyptian cotton, without the use of pesticides or chemicals at any point in the production process.

What prompted you to run this range? Do you plan to extend the range you stock?
We wanted to offer high quality products that were not only good for babies but good for local communities. Under the Nile has a philosophy based on families and the community, and we wanted to align ourselves with brands like that, which had similar values to our own. Under the Nile’s Veggin’ Out collection of ‘educational’ fruit and veggie teether toys is made exclusively through the 13 Villages Project. Thirteen of the poorest villages in rural Egypt were identified as needing financial assistance. Bringing work to the villages enables women to be at home with their children and make a living wage. The women from each village are taught how to make one of the fruit or veggie toys and that village becomes responsible for producing that particular toy. The women are paid a fair wage for their work and, in turn, the community has the opportunity to work towards self-sufficiency and sustainability. We are very happy to offer the range of organic toys as we are confident of the quality and feel very positive about contributing to such a wonderful initiative.

We are looking at extending the range of organic products that we offer in the future as they have been extremely popular. We intend to extend the range of organic clothing that we carry as well as our range of organic carriers.
