Few of us are immune to the romance of a flickering candle

Few of us are immune to the romance of a flickering candle, but those on offer at Point à La Ligne are totally irresistible. Much like Madame Tussauds, this small shop tucked away on the first floor of Al A’ali Shopping Complex is devoted to wax works of art, but in this case cute, colourful and expendable ones. There are posies of wax roses, Russian dolls, bunches of asparagus, seashells, cakes, cactii… you name it, all with a wick subtly protruding from somewhere.
For those of simpler tastes, there are also pared-down, modernist shapes in a monochrome palette, and for foodies there’s the truly delicious Parfum de Confiture range in jam jars and yummy scents like marron and caramel, milk and lavender or fig.
A themed candle shop has the potential to be kitsch but it somehow isn’t, and its wares are guaranteed to add a little je ne sais quoi to a dinner party or romantic tête à tête. This month, as we head outdoors, we’re particularly loving the Nymphea floating candles, which take tea-lights so they’re re-useable and will transform your pool area into A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream time and again.
