Bahrain celebrates everything fashion related for this catwalk spectacular
Time Out Bahrain staff
It was a case of ‘on again, off again’ at the time of going to press, but we hope that Bahrain Fashion Week is still going ahead when May 19 rolls around, as we could all do with an injection of glamour right now. After testing the water with a three-day affair at the Coral Beach in December last year (which was surprisingly good given that it was pulled together in what seemed like a couple of weeks), organisers Lotus Pi are promising an event that’s bigger and better this time round.
Taking the ramp will be a combination of local designers such as Khaled Rajab and Noor Al Shaikh, and a number of internationals, among them Andre Tan from the Ukraine, Larisa Katz from the Netherlands, India’s Sarv Atelier, Heike Jarick from New York and Monica Paracha with Ajjo and Ali Fateh from Pakistan. Not all of the names are instantly recognisable from the world of fashion, it’s true, but nor were those at the last one, and there was some pretty cutting-edge, fabulous stuff. In other words, we reckon it’s worth checking out.
Apart from the fashion shows, there will be an exhibition and a number of seminars addressing hair and make-up, fashion photography and design concepts, plus fabulous after parties to look forward to.
Bahrain Fashion Week runs from May 19-22 at various venues, including the Iwan Ballroom at the Sheraton. Check the website for updates, prices and registration (www.bahrainfashionweek.com, 17 382 444).
