Barcelona triumph in Abu Dhabi

Lionel Messi grabs injury time winner in Club World Championship Discuss this article

Barcelona were crowned Club World Cup Champions in Abu Dhabi last night.

The victory over Estudiantes secured a sixth piece of silverware for the Spanish champions in 2009.

Despite trailing to a first half goal from Mauro Bosselli the Catalan side looked impressive throughout. An equaliser from Pedro Rodriguez in the 89th minute set up the historic victory.

The trophy won in Abu Dhabi will sit alongside La Liga, Copa del Rey, Champions League, European and Spanish Super Cup titles in the bulging awards cabinet.

Almost inevitably it was World Player of the year Lionel Messi that gave them the victory. Perhaps it wasn't his prettiest goal but in chesting home Xavi's cross in the final stages Messi crowned an incredible year.
