"Hurt Locker" takes 6 prizes, including best film, at British academy awards
Avatar was kicked into touch by war drama "The Hurt Locker" at last night's British Academy Film Awards.
The depiction of a bomb-disposal squad in Iraq took six awards, including Best Picture and best director for Kathryn Bigelow. In an added twist, it was her ex-husband Avatar director James Cameron who she beat to the prize.
Both films had eight nominations for the British awards, considered an indicator of possible success at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles next month. "Avatar" and "The Hurt Locker" each has nine Oscar nominations.
"The Hurt Locker" also took British prizes for original screenplay cinematography, editing and sound.
