Phone users in Bahrain have until September 26 to register their Sim cards or risk being disconnected
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced that owners of unregistered SIM cards have until 26th September to register them. After this time, any unregistered mobile lines will be suspended.
TRA chairman and acting General Director Mohammed Al Amer said this step was being taken in the interests of public safety and to discourage illegitimate use of the mobile telecommunications network. Operators were originally instructed to start registering pre-pay users in July 2008, and this latest initiative comes after a similar, apparently unsuccessful, registration drive last year.
