Wahlberg to fight Smith in the Middle East?
Promoters hope to bring Hollywood stars to box in the region Discuss this article
A US entrepreneur is on the hunt for a Middle East location to host a ‘celebrity boxing’ match between Hollywood superstars Will Smith and Mark Wahlberg.
The two actors will be offered $2m each to enter the ring for three one-minute rounds, with the proceeds going to their chosen charities.
“Dubai is a location that people would love to go to,” Hollywood Boxing Federation CEO Damon Feldman told news website Arabian Business. “We don’t have a location yet, but we are looking for one.”
When questioned as to whether both actors had confirmed they would fight, Feldman said: “Mark Wahlberg is interested, and we are meeting with Will Smith’s people next week.”
Feldman also said that the Hollywood Boxing Federation was working with an investor from Dubai, although he did not provide details.
Las Vegas was the original venue for the event, which was widely reported in US media in December.
Feldman said that if both actors agreed, the bout would take place in Dubai on 26 February.
