December 31: Winter Wonderland featuring Hed Kandi with DJ Sarah Louise
Sarah Louise has been playing house music for just over five years. She first became interested in DJing and the club scene back in 2003, in the same year Sarah Louise purchased her first set of decks. A year later, the young upstart had already been offered her first residency and was making waves beyond her native shores. Since then, Sarah Louise has built up a name for herself in her local commercial club scene, in South Wales and the West of England, a scene notoriously difficult to break into.
In 2007, Sarah Louise delved into the radio scene and for over a year presented and produced a fortnightly radio show called The Groovement on ssradiouk, showcasing her own blend of soulful, funky and electro sounds. Her influences range from DJ Spen, Grant Nelson, Joey Negro and Daft Punk to Fedde le Grand and Bart B More. Since joining the massively influential Hed Kandi team, Sarah Louise has been travelling the world, playing sets in some of the world’s most awe-inspiring locations.
Tickets are BD10 for each night and will be available from JJ’s, Camelot & Coral Beach Club. For more info, and for table bookings, call 39 649 590.
December 23: Likwid Reunion (Part 1) with Kenny Hawkes
DJ/Producer Kenny Hawkes has been a pioneering influence on the British dance scene for over 20 years. As a kid growing up in Brighton, Kenny soaked up the sounds of Motown, Ska, Hip Hop, and Dub Reggae. As soon as he hit 18 he disappeared off to Southern Europe, where he spent endless hours developing his DJ skills by playing at some of Europe’s most notorious after hour’s clubs.
He returned home in the early ’90s, skint and unknown, and stumbled across a Pirate Radio Station called ‘Girls FM’. It wasn’t long before Kenny moved to London and joined the station – and in no time Girls FM was attracting up to a million listeners a month with him as the station manager steering its musical direction. It wasn’t long before Girls FM boasted 22 DJs, one of whom was Luke Solomon (of current ‘Freaks’ fame) who soon became Kenny’s friend and fellow resident at London’s longest running mid-week house club, ‘Space’ at Bar Rumba, which they ran together for seven years. These days, Kenny is busy DJing across the globe, and holds residencies at the legendary Centro Fly in New York, Smart Bar in Chicago, and at his own infamous Fridays R Firin’ at Plastic People in London.
Kenny is equally well known for producing tracks, and has several classics under his belt, including, ‘Ashley’s War’, ‘Sleaze Walking’, ‘Play the Game’ featuring Louise Carver and ‘Dance With Me’ featuring Marcel and Kimra. More recently Kenny has teamed up with David Parr to produce exclusive tracks for Rekids, Arcobaleno and 20:20 Vision. The pair are being touted as, ‘one of the hottest new production partnerships around’, producing insanely catchy electronic house music that is deep and melodic, crossing the electro deep- and tech-house divides. As fashions change and music evolves, Kenny has established himself as one of the most respected and consistently creative house DJs in the world.
