Find out why the Cielo Club is one of Bahrain’s top nightspots
Time Out Bahrain staff
Explain the concept of the club. It started as Latin themed, but what is it now? We started as a Latin themed club and we still are, in design, service and attitude, but we believe that in Bahrain, entertainment-wise you have to keep the people on their toes. So we wanted to mix it up to accommodate all party goers with Latin, rock, and reggae live music as well as DJs mixing the latest in house, hip hop and commercial hits.
You created this club from scratch. Tell me about the construction, how long it took, and what the main hurdles were.
It took us six months for the design and construction of the venue. Our main hurdles were not mainly in construction but in getting the permission. Also, at the time, the Riviera Hotel itself was being refurbished to keep up with the new standards of hotels in Bahrain. So put all this together and simply making it through to the opening of the venue was our main hurdle!
What kind of clientele are you aiming to attract?
We want to attract people who want to enjoy a great night but, of course, we do have standards. Depending on the night’s events we have different dress codes, but mainly smart-casual. As long as you present yourself properly our doors are open.
Juffair is jam-packed with nightclubs. What would you say is Cielo’s unique selling point? What are you bringing to the club scene that’s new? Well, our slogan says it all, ‘a different kind of clubbing’. We are concentrating on offering great beverage offers like happy hours and discounts throughout the week, along with great entertainment that includes live bands and their different music styles. We don’t want to be a specific entity in entertainment, we want to offer variety.
You have some pretty unique club nights right now, Tattoo Night being one of them. Tell us more about this – what happens, who’s invited? Our Tattoo Night is an example of our different style of party that is being held at Club Cielo. We set up displays for the tattoo artists plus a section for each artist to answer questions from our guests about the art of tattooing and other body art, and then maybe the client can sign up with the artist for a booking at some point in the future for anything from henna and body painting to tattooing and piercing. All tattoo lovers are warmly welcome, as it is a great chance for people to compare their body art – it is a great atmosphere. Each tattoo party brings more and more new artists and their body art, so what’s offered on each tattoo night is never the same.
It’s ladies night every night, right? So what do the men get? Ha! Yes, every night is ladies night and they get to order from our free Lolita’s beverage menu, which is available every day except for occasional weekend events. And the men get to save when they buy their girlfriend a drink, so in fact everyone is a winner!
You have a couple of really interesting bands playing at the club. Can you tell us more about them? Yes, we do have a good selection of bands from Bahrain playing a variety of different music. We believe Bahrain has amazing talent, so we are happy to give them the opportunity. Equally, we are residing in Bahrain and owe the locals the respect to have the chance to entertain our guests in their country.
Half of the club is a dedicated VIP area. What do you have to do to become a VIP in Cielo? Well, we are a new club, so we are still creating our VIP clientele, but I assure you we have the best prices in town for our VIP section and there will be more to come for those who aspire to a higher service.
What should we be looking forward to from Cielo in 2011? Look forward to some of the wildest party themes and promotions ever seen in Bahrain!
