Meet the Band: Tacit
Cape Town Battle of the Band winners play at the Intercontinental Regency Bahrain Discuss this article
Tacit is made up of Khylie Robus (23) – lead vocals and guitar – Tammy Uys (23) – lead vocals – Carlos Griffin (23) – drums – Spencer Eksteen (53) – bass – Hein Busch (23) – keys and Isaac Monty – lead vocals.
Their set includes everything from Bon Jovi to Bryan Adams, Maroon 5 to Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga to Queen so we figured they might come up with some interesting musical choices. We asked them all the same questions:
How long have you been playing or singing?
KR – I was quite a late starter, only started singing really seven years ago.
TU – I’ve been singing since I was eight.
CG –I’ve been playing drums since the age of 12.
SE – Nine or 10 years, since I was saved (Spencer took up music after becoming a born again Christian).
HB – I’ve been playing keys about seven years and also play guitar, drums and bass. (He provides smooth backing vocals and has been stepping up to the mic in the absence of bandmate Isaac Monty who is yet to arrive from South Africa).
What are your favourite songs to perform and to listen to?
KR – To perform is easy, it’s What’s Up? 4 Non Blondes. To listen to, that’s a hard one, it changes all the time but probably, at the moment, Cher Lloyd.
TU – To perform it would have to be the Amy Winehouse version of Valerie. At the moment I’m listening a lot to Cher Lloyd and Natalia Kills.
CG – I don’t really have a favourite to perform, I enjoy everything we do. To listen to I love John Mayer Waiting on the World to Change.
SE – To play it’s got to be Disco Inferno (said with a big smile). And to listen to Silly Love Songs by Adija.
HB – To play, it changes every day depending on my mood and I guess the same for what I listen to though I love the beat in Waka Waka and also Adele’s Rolling in the deep.
Tell us something people don’t know about you that will surprise our readers?
KR – I’m addicted to tattoos, I have eight so far, and I’m always changing my hair colour, probably once a month.
TU – I come across as quite intimidating but I’m really a big softie and I’m a compulsive fidget, a bit like the Energiser bunny.
CG – I’m addicted to cheesecake.
SE – I’m completely grey, that’s why I shave my head and keep it bald.
HB – I just became a dad to a baby girl yesterday, she’s called Lyric (big congrats).
Other stuff you need to know
Tacit arrived in Bahrain fresh from winning Battle of the Bands in Cape Town.
Singer Isaac, who’s yet to arrive, is the son of a choirmaster and he worked in Mallorca as a tribute act.
The most requested song is Hotel California, which they get asked for every night.
They’re here on a six-month contract and play in Downtown every night except Saturday.
