Live music at JJ's
We speak to JJ's resident band, The Noise, about life in Bahrain Discuss this article
The Noise are James Ferraby (26) – vocals and guitar – Josephine Ellul (33) – vocals, keys and percussion – Benny Mountford (21) – bass and guitar and Elliott Jennings (23) – drums.
The Noise put on an energetic show keeping the crowd at JJ’s happy with a mix of floor fillers and banter and they’ve made a fair few friends during their short stay on the island, we asked them all the same questions to find out what makes them tick.
How long have you been playing or singing?
JF – I’ve been playing 16 years, since I was 10.
JE – 19 years.
BM – I’ve been playing for nine years.
EJ – Around 12 years.
What are your favourite songs to perform and to listen to?
JF – To perform would be Nirvana, Feels Like Teen Spirit and to listen to Hit Me Baby One More Time, Britney Spears (did we get that the wrong way round?).
JE – My favourite song to perform varies according to my mood but at the moment it’s Titanium and to listen to Oh Lala by Midnight Wire (they’re a local Leicester band).
BM – My favourite song to perform is…all of them (ah the enthusiasm of youth) and favourite to listen to Barbie Girl, something tells us he’s having a bit of a laugh!
EJ – To perform, I’m with James, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Nirvana and to listen to, at the moment it’s Great Expectations by Elbow.
Tell us something that people don’t know about you that will surprise our readers and maybe the others in the band?
JF – I have a sixth finger which helps with playing the guitar.
JE – I like sheep and I used to play keys in the UK band Terrorvision.
BM – Weird, I still have my umbilical chord.
EJ – I’m The Stig from Topgear (yeah, and I’m the Sugarplum Fairy).
Other stuff you need to know
Like so many of our other bands, The Noise love Bahrain with the answer to how long are you here for? coming back ‘as long as can be’. In truth though they’re four months into a six month contract, so let’s see.
Their most requested songs are Zombie, seems a popular one everywhere, and there are a couple of regulars who always ask for The Killers’ Mr Brightside and Journey, Don’t Stop Believing.
The Noise play from 10pm-1am Wed and Thu and for the after-brunch party on Fri, 6pm-1am. James and Jo also do an acoustic set at Camelot from 8.30pm on Mondays.
