New radio station in Bahrain and fresh hip hop from the island
Time Out Bahrain staff
On my radio
It’s been a long time coming but Bahrain finally has a new radio station courtesty of Casa D’Costa – the label of well-known local club DJ Damien D’Costa.
Not a frequency station it’s available for iPhone and Android and is free to download.
Damien explained: ‘It’s actually two radio stations, one is a shuffle and one is DJs from all over the world – one’s the sort of music you might take to the gym or play it in the car, while the other is intended to be global, rather than local.
‘The point is to get Middle Eastern music onto the international stage. We have some great DJ talent in this part of the world but there’s no platform where it can be marketed on an international level.’
He adds that at the same time there are lots of DJs from Europe and the rest of the world who want to get their music and mixes known in the region and he will be selecting the best to feature on regular shows and live feeds on the station.
Specialising in deep house, deep-tech, tech-house and techno, Damien has already signed up big names such as Dave Seaman, Pete Gooding, of Café Mambo Ibiza, and Paul Darey, of Space Ibiza, for regular live-feed shows.
He’s also put together a huge number of mixes, the type of stuff that proves popular on his regular club nights, so the station is available 24/7 and he’s now speaking to further DJs, both local and international, who’ll be joining the line-up in the coming weeks and months. Outlaw Nation out now
The wait’s over for the new offering from Bahrain-based hip-hop producer DJ Outlaw. After the success of Outlaw Nation 1 and 2, the third mix dropped in mid-September presented by Tupac’s Outlawz Young Noble and Fatal and hosted by DJ Outlaw and DJ Cellblock.
