Sometimes, there’s nothing better than tucking into a simple and tasty murg makhanwalla. But to turn notoriously heavy Indian dishes into something of refinement truly is a feat of skilled technique.
That’s why Rasoi by Vineet, by the world’s only two Michelin-starred chef for Indian cuisine, won our Best Indian accolade in the Time Out Bahrain Restaurant Awards 2015.
With a stunning venue full of beautiful design elements, and a menu boasting originality and quality, the attention to detail here is undeniable. This extends to the lovely servers, who are armed with extensive knowledge of the menu and good recommendations for undecided diners. The selection hasn’t changed much since we visited last year, but with such incredible food, this hardly matters. You can choose between classics, such as the perennial butter chicken, but it’s the contemporary, fusion section of the menu we’re most interested in. This includes a fabulous and flavourful Uttapam lasagne, rice pancakes layered with aubergine chutney, baby aubergine and topped with crisp iddiyappam for texture. We also can’t get enough of the sambhar podi lobster rubbed in South Indian spices and laid on top of lemon-peanut rice, beetroot moilee and coconut-coriander. Welcome to flavour town.
The bottom line Indian fine dining, always at its best, but service can be slow.
