Mumbai Spice

Budget Indian food in Bahrain is a local favourite

Mumbai Spice
There’s a general rule of thumb when it comes to cheap eat Indians – eat where the Indians eat. And if you go by this, it won’t be long before you are drawn into the queue in front of Mumbai Spice (formerly Bombay Chowpatty) in Bahrain Mall food court. More of a lunch joint, and certainly no place for a romantic meal for two, the thing to eat here is the thali, a selection of rice, chapattis, papadum, two curries, dal and a selection of Indian sweets. Although portions are small, in its entirety it’s enough to feed a family.

Specialising in cuisine from across the Indian Subcontinent, the curries tend to be ghee-free and and with enough spice to be energising, but not so hot as to be tasteless. And with a chaat stand, a range of lassis and some of the best shira (Indian dessert) we’ve had in a while, it’s not hard to see what this is one of the most popular lunch spots in town.
