At BD5 per person this is the most affordable afternoon tea service we’ve come across, and it is also one of the most convenient as it is served all day. This simple and straightforward offering includes a generously sized pot of tea, an assortment of four triangle sandwiches on nice grainy bread, a large rustic scone with cream, fresh strawberry slices and jam, and a sizeable wedge of cake. You get to choose which cake from a variety on offer, and making that decision can be tricky as they all look so good. When it comes to taste, everything hits the proverbial spot, and the proportions of sweet and savoury food and tea feel right for this treat of a meal. The presentation is cute and charming, set off by surrounds that are sufficiently bucolic to make you forget you are at the edge of a car park. Tilly's has divided its seating areas so you can be indoors or outdoors. Service is friendly and knowledgable throughout, and you often see one or two people settled into the corners with their laptops taking advantage of the free wifi. This casual cafe feel sets Tilly's apart from most of the other high-class-hotel-situated afternoon teas on our lists, posing a nice alternative experience. Open daily 7.45am-9.30pm.
