Teatro’s striking decor, based on the misguided notion that more colour and more hanging beads will give the place an edge, means that there isn’t a corner in this huge space that isn’t dolled up. As you’d expect, the clientele is made up of hordes of women wearing huge, dangling earrings, cheap perfume and lipstick who ignore their boisterous, destructive kids and disinterested husbands.
There is only a reasonably priced buffet on offer, and the food, which ranges from Arabic cuisine to pastas and grills, is not bad at all. But crowds of hungry men, women and children push to fill their plates, causing a horrible mess in the process. If you envision the action in slow motion, it’ll look like a 1960s Egyptian farce, complete with flying food and crying toddlers stamping their feet. If this is the type of thing you enjoy, then feel free to join in the madness.
