It’s no surprise that a tiny island like Bahrain has a special relationship with seafood markets. What is surprising is how places like the Fareast Seafood Market have managed to maintain their low prices. This venue sells made-to-order fish.

The display of seafood, although small, is packed with fresh squid, hammour, and Omani lobsters; like other markets, you’ll need to pick what you want, have it measured, and tell the attendant how you want your fish cooked. Their cooking styles aren’t very creative, but if it’s straightforward grills you want, without all the fancy cookery, that’s what you’ll get here. Unfortunately, you don’t get much more.

The restaurant itself, having collided head-on with a kitsch, plastic garden, is an eyesore. And because of the numerous dividers between tables (to give women and families privacy), waiters can’t see you, making it near impossible to receive good service.
