La Ventana

Café offers up charm and homemade dishes to diners Discuss this article

From the outside it’s nothing special; in fact, you have to try the door to be certain that it’s open for business and actually is a café rather then someone’s house. Once inside, though, La Ventanna is teeming with charm. A wood-beamed ceiling, walls littered with random works of art, and chairs covered with patchwork throws, make it seem as though you are dining in a farmhouse kitchen.

It’s a feeling heightened by the number of homemade dishes on offer; the pick of which is the mushroom and leek quiche, with wholewheat crust and cheese topping. The salads are enormous and varied, while the range of flavoured teas and coffees on offer is vast. Be careful, though, when heading to the bathroom. A rickety staircase leads the way to two unmarked doors, one of which is a kitchen and the other a bathroom complete with dust-filled bath and the occasional spider.
