Meet the Bahrain Olympians
We introduce men and women hoping to bring medals home to the Gulf Discuss this article
You might not know this but we have a team of really well-qualified athletes who will be flying the flag for Bahrain at London 2012 You can see the athletics guys and girls at their training camp in St Moritz above and flag carrier Azza Ali Alqasim, who’s not only a sharp shooter but also the official flag-carrier.
We’ll identify them just a little bit but mostly we just want to urge you to watch out for them and support them all the way.
Go on get out your flags and wave ‘em for our boys and girls – we’re not asking you to sing the national anthem!
We’ve got Belal Mansoor Ali in the men’s 800m with a qualifying time of 1:45.78 and also in the 1500m on 3:35.49.
In the women’s 1500m there’s Maryam Yusuf Jamal on 4:00.33, Mimi Belete on 4:03.13 and Genzeb Shumi on 4:05.16.
In the men’s 5000m Bilisuma Shugi qualified at 13:06.73 and Dejenee Regasa on 13:24.25.
Women’s 5000m sees Tejitu Daba on 15:14.62.
In the men’s 10,000m Mahboob Hasan is qualified at 27:21.40 and Alemu Bekele on 27:56.20.
For the women’s 10,000m we have Shitaye Eshete on 31:21.57.
And for the Marathon Adam Ismail Kamis on 2:07.59 and Lishan Dula on 2:26.56 for the women.

In 2008 Rashid Ramzi won Bahrain’s first Olympic gold medal in the men’s 1500m track event. However in 2009, after a newly available test, the International Olympic Committee Executive Board found that Ramzi had committed anti-doping violations. The IOC Executive Board disqualified Ramzi and ordered return Ramzi’s medal and diploma.
