Travel time: One hour 10 minutes Why go? It’s slightly quieter than its Emirati neighbour but a hub of cultural activities with some great eateries and walks along the Corniche if you want to relax. Travel time: One hour 15 minutes Why go? The bustling Emirate is a has-to-be-visited destination from Bahrain. Offering plentiful dining and nightlife options come sun-down – Movida at the Radisson Royal on Sheikh Zayed Road is the latest exclusive hangout for the city’s beautiful people (the club’s only open Wed-Fri, 10pm-3am), while Mahiki at Jumeirah Beach Hotel is a more laidback, but equally fun. Experience art, culture, nightlife, shopping, history and the harsh realities of a long civil war in this vibrant, gritty city – the fantastic old French architecture is still peppered with bullet holes.
