Under the patronage of the Thai Embassy in Bahrain, Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain is bringing the taste of Bangkok and Phuket to Bahrain. On the evening of the 22nd, there will be an opening ceremony in their gardens featuring Thai delicacies and Thai dancers for BD18.1 net. The 23rd features Thursday Night Out with a Thai twist for BD26.6 net. Following that, the hotel’s famous brunch will again have a Thai twist, priced at BD31 net with selected beverages. To continue the celebrations, both evenings of the 24th and 25th will feature another garden festival under the stars for BD18.1 net.

Sovereign Art Foundation Schools Prize

This wonderful week-long art exhibition is showcasing works by students from across the country in a bid to help 5,000 orphans in Bahrain, thanks to the Sovereign Art Foundation and Royal Charity Organisation which launched the SAF Schools Prize. The student entries are being displayed to the public in the Isa Cultural Centre from April 22 to 29 and then an auction gala dinner will take place on May 3 at the Four Seasons Bahrain Bay. All proceeds will go to the Royal Charity Organisation to support Bahrain’s vulnerable orphans.

Jazz at SkyBar

Hotel Diva’s SkyBar is hosting its second ever ‘Jazz in the House’ soiree on Thursday night with an interesting line-up including Jazz Houze (a collective of artists such as DJ Roger, saxophonist Franky Flowerz, pianist Sasha, vocalist Laura and tabla player Omar Quraishi) and DJ Mysterioo Arif. Entry is BD10 for gents and free for ladies. Couples and mixed groups are allowed only.

Urban Culture Week

For the second year in a row, Red Bull’s Bahrain Urban Culture Week is in town and this time it’s being held at creative hub Malja. Visiting and local artists are conducting free workshops in the space throughout the week focusing on the main pillars of hip hop culture – rapping, DJ-ing, break dancing, graffiti and music production. This includes a three-day B-Boy training camp, basic and advanced music production and graffiti workshops. The whole week concludes, on May 1 from 8pm, with the Red Bull BC One Bahrain Cypher when the top 16 local B-Boys will battle it out to be crowned ‘the best’.

Kalila Wa Dimna

This brand new interactive art exhibition at the Bahrain National Museum uses stories from the famous collection of fables known as Kalila Wa Dimna or ‘Fables of Time’. It brings to life the characters, their relationships and lessons learned through digitally reproduced manuscripts from collection across the world, alongside original illustrations and a digital guide to these stories. The exhibit originated in the Children’s Museum in Indianapolis, US and will travel to various destinations across America after its premiere in Bahrain. It’s free to enter and an educational programme also accompanies the exhibition.

The Ritz farmers’ market
