The Electric Swing Masquerade
The Boho Baha team are planning another exciting event, this time it’s the Electric Swing Masquerade at the InterContinental Regency’s Al Thuraya Ballroom. Slip into an elaborate mask and pop on your finest dancing shoes for a night of vintage fun. Heading the evening’s live entertainment is the UK’s notable Electric Swing Circus, a six-piece fusion band of ‘20s swing and stomping electro beats.

Circling The Island - Craig Heslop strikes again
After an epic run across the entire length of Bahrain, Craig Heslop and his friend Hussein Bader are now gearing up to circumnavigate the island – that’s 150 kilometres – on their stand-up paddleboards. Why would they do something so crazy? Well, they’re taking on the challenge to promote the great work done by the Royal Charity Organisation.

Sub Zero
In case you hadn’t noticed, summer is coming. But Asian fusion spot Meisei has the perfect antidote to the hotter weather and it’s called Meisei Sub Zero. The UK’s electric violinist Sally Potterton is in town to entertain, while the restaurant sets up an ice bar and offers liquid nitrogen desserts and iced mixed beverages.

Bahrain – A Personal Diary

It’s your last chance to see Bin Matar’s latest exhibition Bahrain – A Personal Diary. Dedicated to contemporary documentary photography in the Kingdom, the showcase features over 80 works by 20 photographers. The multi-national artists look at local social traditions, environmental issues and the country’s landscape.

Support the animals - By buying designer gear
Support your local animal welfare charity by bagging bargains on luxury branded items. The BSPCA is hosting yet another popular Designer Day Sale at its thrift shop, with items from the likes of Ralph Lauren, See by Chloe, Paul Smith, Tods and many more. All funds go towards caring for the dogs and cats at the Animal Welfare Centre, so be generous!

Watch This
The newest show to hit the Trader Vic’s terrace is a Broadway performance set to dazzle diners. Blending modern soundtracks with impressive choreography, a line-up of sparkling showgirls, circus artists and acrobats will be mesmerising onlookers.

Izakaya Sundays

Now there’s another reason to go to Bushido Restaurant and it’s called Izakaya Sundays. Izakaya is a type of informal Japanese food gathering, similar to Spanish tapas. Slowly order several courses, and re-order whatever you like, from a special menu, boasting items such as volcano rolls, rock shrimp tempura and beef tenderloin in teriyaki sauce.

Summer is coming
The Warbler is hosting an indoor summer beach party over two days. A special three-course menu for dinner is on offer, while Friday sees a themed “frunch” take place and the resident band and DJ are on stage. Don’t forget your flip-flops.

Asian fusion restaurant Meisei is hosting Tropical Splash to mark the arrival of beach season. Don your jazziest Hawaiian shirts, garlands and boardies, while T-Paul combines eclectic DJ mixes with live saxophone.

Cirque Le Soir

Roll up, roll up and prepare to be transported into a fantastical world of magicians, clowns, sword swallowers, fire-eaters and contortionists, as Cirque Le Soir shows up to Bushido for their seventh anniversary celebrations. Originally opened in London in 2009, Cirque Le Soir has become one of the most successful clubs in the world, attracting the likes of Lady Gaga, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kanye West through its doors. It’s famed for its nightly performances, international DJs, playing multiple genres, top mixologists and dazzling circus décor. This night features DJ Albert-L on the decks and the dress code is glamorous with a freakish twist, so make it count.

Eat This
Did you know that the reason why white asparagus are white is because of a lack of sunlight? They call this process “etiolation” and it gives the vegetable a more delicate flavour and tender texture. That’s why the Bushido kitchen team have created an entire special menu dedicated to the delicacy this month.

Macaron vs Macaroon - Pick up a mountain of one
Do you know your macaroons from your macarons? Well, if you visit Longitude 50 on National Macaroon Day (Tue May 31) you’ll be in no doubt as to which is which. (Macaroons are the flourless cookies made from ground nuts and leavened egg whites.) Find mountains of them in the café all month.

Mexican Fiesta

Get ready for a Latin-style fiesta at The Gulf Hotel’s award-winning Margarita Mexicana restaurant, where a celebration of Mexican food and culture is going on all week. Chef Rafael and his team are putting on quite an authentic spread, while 14 entertainers from the Mexican folklore ballet Yoliztli Widen de la Laguna are transforming the hotel lobby into a performance space.
