Government to restore Manama Souq mosque minaret

The Manama Souq is one of the top tourist spots in Bahrain, and it’s only right that visitors get to experience the building in its full glory.

Which is why the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities is about to restore the Al-Mehza'a Grand Mosque at the traditional marketplace.

The government plan on reviving the minaret in a way that “enhances its uniqueness in harmony with the old souq and the urban fabric of the historic Manama”.

To do so, BACA are asking for anyone who has pictures, video clips, original illustrations or documents of the mosque when it was first built to get in contact.

It is hoped the old images and clippings will ensure the grand mosque is restored properly.

You can either visit the BACA website here, or email almehzaa@culture.gov.bh. You can also hand in any documents at the BACA building at the Bahrain National Museum.

BACA are working with the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs on the project.
