Sound & Fiction, which will run from December 5 until December 7, will see live performances from artists including Bahraini electronica duo Arabstract, experimental sound artist Hasan Hujairi and Kuwaiti psychedelic rock band Galaxy Juice.
Other participants from further afield include US-based artist Christopher the Conquered and Paxico Records founder Chris Hudd.
The conference, which will be held hosted at the Bait Al Salmaniya and the Alliance Francaise, is also set to include a number of talks, workshops and film screenings.
Panels will deal with topics including the current state of the music scene in the region, the rise of Arab hip-hop and rap, and the importance of community building.
Conference director and founder Ali Al Saeed said, “Sound & Fiction was developed because I felt a desperate need to create an alternative forum to delve deeper in what music is.
“It’s about breaking the status quo, challenging both musicians and listeners, and shifting how music is perceived.”
Saeed believes the music scene has been dominated by corporate and commercial approaches, which he hopes the conference will challenge.
He added, “This is natural, but left unchecked, or unchallenged, it can lead to a very stale, uniform landscape.”
All of the events throughout the three-day conference will be free to attend, and you can find out the full programme by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
