Ric's Kountry Kitchen

What to expect from US expat favourite

Time Out Says

This place is a little rough and ready with its graffitied walls, littered with messages from years of visiting US servicemen, but it’s also friendly and welcoming with a capital W.

Make no mistake, Ric’s is very much an American haunt. It’s close to the base and serves good down-home cooking but that’s not to say other nationalities aren’t encouraged and you’ll regularly hear Irish and Filipino voices joining in with the regular karaoke sessions.

And speaking of those karaoke sessions, whenever we go there, there seems to be an impromptu one taking place and if your squawking is akin to Cameron Diaz in My Best Friend’s Wedding, this could be the place to gain your public singing chops, it really does seem a case of the worse the better.

The bar’s popular every night but particularly so on Thursdays, when it draws an eclectic after-work crowd, and over the weekend when Juffairites pile in for their breakfasts. It regularly gets quite loud and there’s a great atmosphere.

The staff are friendly, service is quick and, if you’re going with kids, there’s even a mini petting garden outside where small animals and birds are at home for visitors.

If you want to soak up the good vibes but fancy a moderately less raucous evening, the upstairs restaurant has slightly posher (and costlier) food, in a much tamer atmosphere.

And the best thing about Ric’s is that it only closes for three and a half hours a day between 2am and 5.30am!
