Sherlock Holmes

Traditional British boozer is more than a basic pub

Time Out Says

Not content with plundering the Irish theme pub, Bahrain opts for a ‘traditional’ British boozer named after that most quintessential of Brits. The Baker Street detective might have something to say about the dingy interior, sweaty ale aroma and sticky floor, and the red phone box is a bit too much, but as far as faithfully recreating old Blighty, it’s actually a decent reproduction.

The requisite big screens for football, choice of pints, dark wood and leather furnishings are all present and correct, while the nicest surprise comes in the shape of South-African-brewed Savanna – a crisp, dry cider that is nigh on impossible to find elsewhere. Holmes himself would probably appreciate the reading lights with which to peruse his case notes, but aside from that there’s little to raise Sherlock’s above another standard themed pub.
