Danielle Doporto finds out what’s special about a Westin massage

Heavenly Spa tried & tested

The promise
This treatment aims to increase oxygen flow to and release toxins from the muscles, leaving you physically relaxed and mentally uplifted.

Step by step
Our therapist initially presents us with a tray of dried flowers on which sit three pebbles with the words ‘hope,’ ‘love’ and ‘gratitude’ written on them, allowing us to choose what feeling we’d like to instil throughout the massage. Once chosen, we lie on the massage table and the strike of a chime signals the start of the treatment. We’re then patted down with a warm, damp towel and then massaged. First, we’re dry so the friction warms the muscles but then white tea oil is applied. A Swedish technique is used, employing long gliding strokes and gentle kneading, and once our muscles are relaxed, pouches of warmed natural herbs are utilised.

The result
After a lovely experience, we are keen to go back and try out other signature treatments at this luxe spa.

Pros
A finely-tuned level of responsiveness to guests is the stand-out feature of this experience.

Cons
The relaxation area is not guaranteed to be the most relaxing. It sits in a small nook open to the main corridor of the spa, which renders it exposed to any staff or guests moving through the facilities.
