But with two weeks to go until the big day, there’s still so much to do.
Read on for our round-up of all the best things to do in Bahrain this Christmas.
Go ice skating at Jumeirah Royal Saray
From December 4 until January 2, Jumeirah Royal Saray will be transformed into a winter wonderland complete with an ice rink and Santa’s grotto. You’ll be able to buy all sorts of festive treats as you take part in (fake) snow fights, too.
BHD5. Sat-Wed 4.30pm-10pm; Thu-Fri 4.30pm-11.30pm. Jumeirah Royal Saray, Seef (7770 7070).
Go to a Christmas jumper party
We think it’s a real shame that you only get to wear a Christmas jumper for one month a year (unless you’re some kind of psycho who starts getting ready for the festive season in July). Which is why we’re super excited for McGettigan’s Christmas jumper party this year, where there’ll be prizes for the best and worst festive knits. Nothing to wear? Check out our guide on where to buy a Christmas jumper in Bahrain here.
Thu Dec 12 8.30pm-2am. Adliya (1700 0415).
Book a Christmas Eve dinner
Why not pretend you’re Scandinavian and head out for a meal on Christmas Eve this year? There are plenty of options, and they’ll be less busy and over-the-top compared to the main event. What’s not to like?
Take part in a karaoke competition
Txoko is throwing a karaoke competition every Friday until December 27 this year, and you could be in with a chance of winning a stay in one of the hotel’s luxury suites, or BHD200. Better brush up on your Michael Buble and Mariah Carey.
Free entry. Every Fri 4.30pm-10pm. The Domain Hotel and Spa, Diplomatic Area (1600 0000).
Watch the sound and light show at Bahrain Fort
Fine, this one isn’t Christmas-related at all. But the sound and light show at Bahrain Fort is one of the best family-friendly activities in Bahrain and sometimes you need a break from doing Christmas stuff.
Every Tue, Thu & Fri 6pm-8pm. Qal’at Al Bahrain, Qalah (1756 7171).
Curl up at home and watch a festive movie
One of the best parts about Christmas is the so-bad-they’re-good movies. A 13th-century knight ends up in modern-day America and needs to complete a quest before? Incredible. A vet finds love on a Christmas trip to Africa? Oscar-worthy. Check out our guide to the best festive movies to watch at home here.
Party Christmas Day away at a brunch
Stuff your face with turkey and all the trimmings without having to worry about burning the festive bird (or doing the washing up after). The perfect stress-free Christmas Day. Check out our guide to all your options here.
Check out the music and food stalls at Revive festival
Water Garden City is set to host a ten-day eco-friendly festival from Boxing Day. There’ll be food stalls, live performances and competitions, and you won’t want to miss it. Entry starts from BHD2, so it’s a pocket-friendly day out for those of you who splashed out on Christmas presents.
From BHD2 (one entry). Thu Dec 26-Sat Jan 4 4pm-midnight. Water Garden City, Seef (6660 5657).
