If you’re looking for a quiet place to enjoy a traditional breakfast in Bahrain, head to Al Ameer. Wash down your meal with a cup of tea or coffee, and be pleasantly surprised by how affordable everything is.

Bennigan’s

A pub might not seem like an obvious choice for breakfast in Bahrain, but if you’re after a (delightfully) greasy fry up, Bennigan’s is our go-to.

You can get a full Irish, complete with sausages, black pudding and soda bread toast, or opt for the full American, with breakfast potatoes and American-style sausages.

If you’re looking for something smaller, the menu also has butties, French toast or build-your-own omelettes. A great option for even the pickiest of eaters.

Everything about Café Chantilly is pretty. Its renowned for its elegant French pastries, and you’ll be hard pushed to go there and not snaffle one of these, but there’s also a huge range of more substantial breakfast options.

Want pizza for breakfast in Bahrain? You can with the Chantilly breakfast flatbread, topped with tomato sauce, cheese, spinach, beef bacon, two eggs and fresh tomato. There are also beef and feta, and halloumi zaatar variations.

Café Lilou

Although we think a trip to Café Lilou is special at any time of day, we think our favourite is their breakfast in Bahrain. Whether you fancy French toast, a cheese toastie or an omelette, the menu has you covered.

There’s also four types of shakshouka, a crispy hash brown eggs Benedict with sriracha mayo and the Moulin Rouge, a croissant absolutely jam-packed with scrambled eggs and smoked turkey.

Café Sego

This cute café is inspired by traditional French patisseries and is a top spot for one of the best breakfasts in Bahrain if you want to blend classic pastries with local flavours.

New this summer is the breakfast croissant stuffed with halloumi cheese, zaatar, avocado slices, rocca, cherry tomatores and pesto sauce. If that doesn’t tempt you, perhaps one of the seven flavours of French toast will. The best bit? Café Sego is open all day – and night.

Cantine

This is the place for healthy, nutritious breakfasts, with options for all sorts of dietary requirements. Cantine focuses on nourishing meals with fresh ingredients, all served up in a light, airy space in Al Liwan and The Courtyard. Try the granola bowl (pictured) for a wholesome start to the day, or a herbed omelette with home-made sourdough.

Chai Cafe

Chai cafe’s menu is filled with traditional food and is the perfectly place to stop off for a quick breakfast in Bahrain. Make sure you try out the freshly baked khubiz, a traditional flatbread that’s served 15 different ways here. Top picks are the potato khubiz with cheese and the fig jam khubiz.

Another traditional spot, Haji Gahwa is a must-visit on any trip to Bahrain. There’s a brilliant menu, and you’ll be dining alongside locals who head here for huge meals at excellent prices.

Higher Grounds

This elegant boutique café offers some of the most indulgent breakfasts in Bahrain, from short ribs florentine and crunchy chicken waffle to our current favourite, the fine cheese selection with handcrafted bread, crackers and jam. Those with a sweeter tooth should opt for the babka French toast with spiced berry compote and vanilla ice cream. There’s also a branch in Riffa.

The best part about the menu at Nomad Urban Eatery is that it spans so many cuisines, from Arabic and European to east Asian. The breakfast menu reflects that, and you can get standard dishes like the ever-popular avo on toast, or opt for an adventurous mash-up like the falafel scotch egg or the sausage bao.

Origin Kitchen and Culture

When it comes to breakfast in Bahrain, you can never go wrong with a terrific morning feast. The Origin Kitchen and Culture at Hilton serves up a brilliant buffet from Sunday to Friday between 6.30am and 10.30am.

If you’re a late riser, worry not. Their slow Saturdays are perfect to enjoy a leisurely breakfast buffet, featuring live cooking stations and a spread of continental, Asian, & Arabic favorites from 6.30am to 11.30am.

The Orangery

Step inside The Orangery, and you’ll instantly be transported to the traditional European tea rooms of the 15th century. The surroundings are impressive, and make you feel like royalty, but the breakfast dishes are even better. You can get both Arabic and European options, including French toast or foul and falafel.
