Layers of ‘meaty’ aubergine are layered with freshly grated parmesan cheese, rich marinara sauce and topped with a handful of basil leaves to create a burger concoction so rare we just had to try it. The result is the classic Italian eggplant parmigiano dish on a soft, squishy bun.

Salmon teriyaki burger at 338 Garden Restaurant
A hulking piece of well-cooked salmon, marinated in teriyaki sauce, is served in a soft squid ink black bun atop a bed of peppery rocket leaves, sweet strawberry and a creamy tartar sauce. Alongside it comes a pot of fantastic tempura-battered celery ‘chips’.

Vegan burger at Organic Café
Any veggie food lovers’ dream is this organic quinoa burger made with a sautéed vegetable medley and potato patty, served with a green salad, roasted tomatoes, grilled carrots, beetroot and cucumber, plus a dash of sweet, sweet caramelised onions.

Mediterranean kale veggie burger at Bluefield Burger
This patty made from kale, potatoes, chickpeas, onion and a dashing of Mediterranean herbs and spices is a great option for any meat-eschewing diner. With the addition of the kale, it makes you feel you’re on the healthy side of burger indulgence.

Black bean burger at Mooyah
This Texan-import in Juffair allows you to customise your own sandwich and this black bean offering is a winner. It’s soft but meaty thanks to the beans and potato filling, and is wonderfully spiced offering a flavoursome kick to savour.

New homegrown offering, Destination Burger in Juffair, gives you the option to tailor your own meal with lots of tasty toppings and even let’s you swap the bread bun for a lettuce wrap. The squishy vegetable patty in the green wrap with crunchy toppings is recommended.
