Thurs 12, Bahrain Rugby Football Club: It’s the monthly book sale to raise cash for the Dogfather’s rescue centre from 4pm to 6pm. There’s a wide range of second-hand books, from kids’ titles to crime and educational, in fact something for everyone.

Tribal fun
Sat 14, Bahrain Rugby Football Club: This is one for the youngsters: Bahrain Irish Society in partnership with the Arabian Celts GAA Club will be running a tribal fitness day for kids – it’s the latest craze sweeping the island and gives youngsters a chance to build fitness while having fun. There’ll also be children’s gaelic matches and lots of races and other fun things to do. The Irish Society’s events are always a good craic (ask anyone who attended the Gaelic Games back in November!) so this should be fun and it’s free – either book in with the Irish Society or turn up on the day.
Green fingers
Mon 16-Wed 18, Bahrain International Exhibition Centre: Check out the plans for the greening of the desert and all things horticultural and agricultural at Bahrain International Garden Show. The show is now in its eighth year and getting bigger and better with each staging. Don’t forget to take a look at the marketplace, where producers from across the island will be showing off their goods
– it’s a bit like a traditional farmers’ market, Bahrain-style.
