Get the iftar habit or cozy up to a camel from July 22-31

Cozy up to a camel
Camels aren’t as common a sight here as they once were but at Janabiya you can still get up close and personal with 400 of the miraculous desert beasts. Give ‘em a cuddle, feed ‘em a treat – we’re not experts on camel dietary requirements but we reckon a carrot or an apple would probably go down well – and sometimes there’s even a chance for a camel ride. This place is free and it’s not an official tourist facility so a dinar for the watchman is always welcome.

Get the iftar habit
By now Ramadan will surely be in full swing so make the Noor tent at the Elite one of the first places you try. The food selection is always absolutely enormous so we always check this one out first to see what’s on offer.

Saturday night at the movies
The summer movie releases are often a bit lacking but we’re quite looking forward to The Dark Knight Rises, the return of batman seven years after our hero took the fall for Two Face’s crimes. Gotham is being overtaken by new threat Bane and it’s time to call on the skills of the man in the black rubber suit. Starring Christian Balewith and Michael Cane and directed by Christopher Nolan, it’s out on Jully 22 so hopefully will be with us this week, maybe this time round they’ll explain why all the villains want to destroy or rule Gotham.

Do your bit for charity
As well as fasting and contemplation, Ramadan’s also about doing things for others. We’ll be doing a round-up of some local initiatives in next month’s part two of the Ramadan guide but in the meantime why not come up with your own ideas – buy some dinner for the watchman, get your kids to clear out the toy box…
