The Bookcase: Another fave on the Budaiya Highway, this has a huge selection in every category and also has its first floor dedicated to children’s books. It also stocks a wide variety of mineral and crystal figurines and ornaments, as well as your usual gift shop-style paraphernalia.
Open daily 10am-10pm, Budaiya Highway (17 690 566).
Hazel: This is a very cute little place on the ground floor of the Phoenicia Centre, opposite the Ferrari Centre in Adliya. The walls are lined with second hand books, while the floor space is covered with ethnic knick knacks, decorations and furniture. Prepare to spend a good few hours lost in here.
Open 9am-9pm Sat-Thu, Osama bin Zayed Avenue, Adliya (17 717 145).
Words: A bookstore and café combines, bringing together two of our favourite things. And we’re not the only ones, on weekends you’ll frenquently find this place packed with families snacking and just hanging out. The café’s downstairs along with new publications and a selection of cookery books then upstairs is a really good kids’ section, great for pressies, as well as loads of other stuff from gardening manuals to coffee table tomes and everything in between.
Open daily 8am-8pm, Fri 10am-6pm, Palm Square, Budaiya Highway (17 690 790).
