A genuine homegrown gem is this decorative furniture and home accessories store which is the brainchild of Sara Sayyar and Mariam Fathi. It started off as a design concept, using recycled materials to make one-off furniture and art pieces back in 2013 and has since captured the nation’s imagination. The store, based in A’ali’s Riyadat Mall, sells all sorts of beautiful and quirky items.

This homegrown store first opened its doors in Salmabad back in 1995 and has since become a destination of choice for Bahrain residents looking to spruce up or make over their homes. All of this is reflected in their premium furnishings which range from fabric to flooring to accessories and everything in between.

A trip to the Pottery Barn store in City Centre Bahrain is like coming home, as corny as that might sound. Their furniture designs are so comfortable yet stylish, using truly high quality materials and enticing customers with that all-American family style since 1949. It doesn’t come cheap but then again, great quality never does so if you want something that’s going to last you and your family a lifetime then this is the shop for you. You also have the option of looking through junior store Pottery Barn Kids.

If high end is more your thing then we’d definitely recommend a trip to French retailer Roche Bobois where function meets fashion in a glitterati of desirable furniture designs. Their collections have long been gathering worldwide attention with various fashion designers – such as Kenzo, Missoni and Jean Paul Gaultier – putting their mark on the company’s pieces. Overall, Roche Bobois presents contemporary yet comfortable items ranging from bookshelves to chairs, TV stands to dining tables.

Marketing itself as an ethical home fashion brand, THE One, has become a leading retailer in the region. It was invented by Thomas Lundgren in Abu Dhabi, UAE back in 1996 after he decided the world needed an ethical, emotional retail experience. His mission statement? ‘To save the world from IKEA’. Now the brand has shops (or theatres, as they call them) in eight countries across the Middle East, including right here in Bahrain.

A treat to the eyes and the senses, Trousseau (which means the belongings collected by a bride for her marriage) is a wonderful treasure trove of a shop which was born out of a respect for all things beautiful. Its doors first opened back in 2008 in Hamala and the brand has since expanded to Al A’ali Shopping Complex, selling everything from luxurious bedding to plush towels, vintage furniture and fragrances.
