Celebrity charity climb

Ex Bahraini TV star headed for Kilimanjaro

Dubai resident Nadia Swan will attempt to scale Africa's highest mountain during a charity climb, according to a report.

The ex-Bahrain Radio and Television Corporation news reader is hoping to raise BD5,000 ($132633for the Palm Association when she tackles Mount Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania, on June 21, Bahrain's Gulf Daily News reported.

Swan has lived in the Gulf kingdom of Bahrain for almost 15 years, before moving to Dubai. According to her profile on the Riffa Views website, Swan says: "Just over nine years ago, I joined a group of determined ladies who also called Bahrain "home". We wanted to give something back to the community in which we lived and that had made us feel so welcome. The Palm Association was formed to help the many needy Bahraini families living in poor conditions in villages across the country."

The Palm Association has helped needy families by sending them monthly food parcels, has had their homes which were in serious disrepair renovated, and dedicated Bahraini students who could not otherwise afford the fees have been sponsored through university courses which should enable them to find employment to support themselves and their families.
